Here is a front entrance I did with two exterior columns. I first built out the structural posts with 2x4s and plywood to create boxes. I then wrapped the sub-boxes with 3/4″ PVC sheets. Using PVC material does not require any special skills. PVC trim cuts and sands much like wood, but PVC is more flexible and durable than wood, requiring less maintenance. It will not soak up water, so it won’t warp or rot. If you glue the two ends together, it fuses them together making a tight bond. These advantages made the product great for this project.
