This job entailed laying a new tile floor. The walls received new baseboards and a simple bench seat with a pegged coat shelf.

Dust Containment

Before demoing the floor I sealed off the kitchen entrance with plastic.

Demolition

I removed the baseboard and tile and sub floor. It can be a difficult job, but with the use of a hammer, crow bar and chisel it came up nicely.

Next, I ripped out the plywood underlayment. I needed a dumpster so for this small job I used a Dumpster Bag that can be found at Home Depot.

Floor Integrity

I examined the subflooring and repaired any areas that needed structural integrity. I always add screws to the entire flooring to eliminate squeaks.

Tile Underlayment

Installing tile requires a properly installed underlayment. I installed a 1/4” cement backer board underlayment to provide a good surface for installing tile to insuring it’s longevity. I installed the backer board by cutting and dry fitting the pieces in place.

I applied thin set to the subfloor, set the backer board in place and screwed the floor down following the manufacturer specs.

To finish it off I filled and taped all the seams.

Tile Set

I cut all the tile first then installed the tile with thin set.

I back buttered each tile before I set them down.

Leveling clips were used as spacers. I then grouted the floor.

Coat pegs and bench

I finished by adding the baseboard and installing the toilet and pedestal sink.

A little paint will finish this project up nicely.
