The decking on this farmers porch was originally installed with finish nails without the proper spacing between the deck boards. The railings were showing wear and the posts were beginning to rot. After discussing the homeowner wanted the front porch updated with composite Azek decking and railings. During demo I supported the porch roof with 2×8 framing boards prior to removing the posts. I installed new pressure treated posts with proper fasteners and metal connectors. I also bolted all the rail posts into the porch frame with two 5/8″ galvanized carriage bolts and built new pressure treated steps to accommodate the new posts and decking. After wrapping the frame and posts with PVC boards and post sleeves I cut and assembled the sub-rail, balusters and top-rail with exterior screws and permanently installed the railings.
